The warm welcome of the groom by the bride’s mother was done in a traditional Gujarati way called “Ponkhnu”. The air was filled with love and warmth, and the guests and groom entered the ballroom and guests took their seats. Ceremony Patrick entered the ballroom followed by the bride’s parents, groom’s parents, siblings, and dog to the tunes of “tujhe dekha toh”. Along with the groom, the bride’s parents and the priest start with the Ganesh Pooja. This pooja is held to remove any obstacles and also to seek blessings for this holy matrimony. Soon after the pooja, began the Antarpat. A white cloth is held over the groom’s head before the bride enters. This ritual invokes the truest feelings of love and anticipation among the couple just before their marriage. The bridal party soon started entering the ballroom with music playing in the background. With the guests’ eyes glued to the entrance of the ballroom, Sonica walked in looking like a dream in her lehenga, walking towards Patrick in the mandap to the tunes of “Ranjha”. “Kanya agamana” was next with the bride being brought to the mandap by her uncles, parents, and siblings. With a Varmala in hand, the priest was chanting the mangalashtak while the Antarpat was lowered for Patrick and the couple exchanged their varmalas. The ritual of kanya daan is also done with the bride’s parents giving the bride’s hand to the groom. The ritual of “hasta milaap” was next done which ties a handkerchief of the groom to the bride’s sari. To the tune of “Pehle pehlu”, the couple took mangal Pheras around the fire with their family throwing rose petals on them as a symbol of their blessings and love. Patrick performed the “Saptapadi”, by helping Sonica touch seven betel nuts with her right toe. The epitome of marriage – Sindoor was then put on Sonica’s forehead and Patrick tied the mangal sutra, culminating the wedding. With Chris and his family welcoming “Swagat” into the mandap, everybody got ready for the wedding procession. Wedding ceremony With all the guests taking their respective seats, the wedding ceremony started. Chris, his parents, and siblings walked towards the mandap to the tunes of “Tenu Leke”. Followed by the bride’s parents and sister to the tunes of “Godh Gojira, laaj lajiri”. Ganesh Pooja is done in the mandap to seek blessings for this auspicious day. All eyes are then glued towards the end of the hallway, anticipating the bride’s entry. Akanksha walked towards the mandap, hand in hand with her uncles to the tunes of “goryaa, goryaa”. Antarpat is used and both Chris and Akanksha stand with jaimalas in their hand for their wedding. Once the Antarpat is lowered, they put garlands on each other. Both of them read their vows to each other after this and exchange rings ending the ceremony. With the priest announcing them husband and wife, they sealed this magical occasion with a kiss. With the tune of “Sajiri Gojiri” in the background, the couple walks out of the mandap as rose petals are tossed at them by the guests as a symbol of their blessings and joy. With the happiness of a well-done marriage, the couple and family pose for post-wedding pictures, before relishing the lunch. An amazing spread of the lunch menu was enjoyed by friends, and family as they started getting ready for the reception evening. Reception All dolled up in a lilac lehenga and black suit, Akanksha and Chris arrived at their reception. With a wide spread of delicious foods, an array of couple portraits in the ballroom, family pictures, with the music of a DJ, it was a night to remember. In the cocktail hour, everybody performed with full energy. Chris and Akanksha had their first dance, hand in hand, with love and joy in their eyes. A performance by students of Akanksha who is a trained classical dancer also marveled the guests and added a cherry on the top. The reception ended with the tune of the “Every Time We Touch” song. Morning Shenanigans With an early morning start to makeup, at the bridal suite in W hotel, the bride Hillary got ready for her monumental wedding. The bridal suite embodied joy, joy, excitement, and laughter. Hillary looked beautiful in her red bejeweled lehenga, a classic and modern look striking against her glowing face. Rachel, Liam’s sister enters shortly and paves the way for Liam’s entrance. Holding hands of his mother and Hillary’s mother, followed by the fathers of the bride and groom, he enters the ceremony hall to the tunes of “Lifetime”.
